Work for Clients: Troy James Logo

About Project:

I have a friend whom I have done some work for that is from Texas. He has acquainted himself with the music scene out there and needed some work done to promote his work like album covers, and song art.

He was impressed with the work I had done and offered to refer me to other musicians that he knew. One of them was for a musician named DJ Troy James. In his musical style, among other things, he is known to chop notes. His brand of electronic music is hard to be categorized, he does what inspires him.

With this information corresponded with him about what he wanted in a logo. New to the whole process he asked me to come up with some ideas and we would go from there.

My initial two directions for Troy were a split note and a monogram-type logo.

This is just one of the pages from my sketchbook for an initial direction for Troy. I really wanted this logo to resonate with him, so I chose a symbol (the musical note) that was a large part of his life.

I presented these three sketches to Troy as I thought they were the strongest directions.

When presenting to the client I will often choose the strongest sketches and give those to them. I don't want to present them with everything I have come up with, because it can be overwhelming. So I chose three from each concept to take his temperature on the designs.

I presented him with the two options that had typography attached.

After we had moved forward further, I presented him with a digital composition sheet of the options we had before us.

However, the next E-Mail I received was him canceling the project, because he was graduating. He was no longer going to have time to spend on the logo.
